Lakeshore goes edgy with rule-breaking comedians, revues
Thursday, March 22, 2007
"The Marijuana-Logues," which finds Arj Barker, Tony Camin and Doug Benson (VHI's "Best Week Ever") waxing comedic on the highs and lows of cannabis, inaugurates the latest incarnation of Chicago's Lakeshore Theater Wednesday.
"We wanted to provide a venue in Chicago for the edgiest, most challenging, rule-breaking comics working today," said artistic director Chris Ritter in a prepared statement about the theater's transformation into a comedy concert hall. "We also hope to introduce some new artists and their work to the Chicago audience."
A joint venture between Ritter and comedian Paul Provenza (director of "The Aristocrats"), the Lakeshore showcases touring standup comedians as well as shows like "The Maurijuana-Logues." The lineup also includes "Col. Ritter's Spectacular Hour of Wonderment," a weekly new vaudeville revue running at midnight Saturdays beginning March 31.
Benson returns for a solo set at 8 p.m. April 6 and 7. Former SNL favorite Julia Sweeney brings her one-woman show "Letting Go of God" about her conversion from Catholicism to atheism to the theater at 7 p.m. April 13 and 3 p.m. April 14.
Lakeshore Theater is located at 3175 N. Broadway, Chicago. Mainstage tickets range from $15 to $25. The late-night show is $5. Tickets are available at (773) 472-3492 or online by clicking here.
